Noses, Morning Walks and The Blessing Of Rent
Lesson 1: I need to work on noticing and appreciating the little things more
After this week's events, I've realized I severely underappreciate a clear nose. Between blowing my nose nonstop, being filled to the brim with snot and getting chapped from using paper towels as a kleenex, my nose worked overtime this week.
My nose isn’t the only thing being overworked and underappreciated. I go most days without giving a second thought to the little things that help create my beautiful life. I can’t remember the last time I stopped to appreciate my 24/7 access to clean drinking water, the ability to shower whenever I want or having a fridge full of food. A new goal of mine is to notice the little details of life with more appreciation.
Lesson 2: Exploring outside our routine can be very good
One of my favorite things to do on Sunday morning is go for a walk. I’m a routine person, but for some reason this past Sunday I felt the urge to veer from my normal route. Surprisingly, I listened and after a few new turns, found myself walking up a less familiar street. This street ended up being very quiet, which is hard to find where we live, and was exactly what I needed that morning. A quiet place to work through some thoughts weighing on my mind. Maybe straying from our routines isn’t always a bad thing…even if it’s uncomfortable at first.
Lesson 3: Paying rent is a blessing (I’m sorry what??)
It was brought to my attention how blessed we are to be paying our rent in full every month. Paying rent has been a source of frustration for me because it feels outrageously expensive. Never once have I considered it a blessing. However, I was humbled this week and have since grown a new sense of gratitude for paying rent. We’ve been able to pay rent in full every month since moving here, not everyone is as lucky. I’m very grateful we have the means to pay for our housing and the place of warmth and comfort our home has been to us over the past few months.
Gratitude:
Sunny December Days: I’m eating up the warm weather this winter. It makes my sunflower heart so happy. I know I should probably be praying for snow since we need the moisture but I’m feeling a little selfish this year.
Cell Phones: Having the ability to call and chat with my family whenever I want is such a blessing. I’m forever grateful for long phone calls with the family.
Crew Necks: I’ve been living in crew necks and hoodies the past few weeks and I’m not mad about it. I love the feeling of coziness they provide.
